Seplat Energy workers call off strike hours after action begins

Workers at Seplat Energy have suspended their strike just hours after commencing the industrial action.

The workers had begun the strike on Friday following a breakdown in negotiations over the 2026 collective bargaining agreement and staff welfare concerns.

According to reports, the plan was to halt production reporting and export operations while maintaining only essential safety and power services.

However, on Saturday, Festus Osifo, president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), confirmed that the strike has “been called off”.

Osifo did not provide details on the reason behind the sudden suspension.

The strike involved only PENGASSAN members, while other workers under a different union did not take part.

This marks the second industrial action by PENGASSAN within eight months, following a previous strike against Dangote refinery in September 2025.

During that earlier dispute, the union protested the dismissal of “over 800 workers” and instructed branches of international oil companies to scale down gas supply to the refinery.

The strike was later suspended on October 1.
