Shettima pledges enhanced security measures for Borno bomb blast survivours

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reassured the people of Borno State and Nigerians across the country that the Federal Government is steadfast in its responsibility to safeguard lives and property, in the aftermath of Wednesday’s bomb blast at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri.

In the same vein, the Vice President expressed condolences to those injured in the attack who are currently receiving medical care, conveying the compassion of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government.

Senator Shettima made the remarks on Friday in Maiduguri after visiting survivors being treated at the Muhammadu Buhari Trauma Centre, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Deeply affected by the victims’ condition, the Vice President condemned the incident as a senseless act of violence and reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to bring insecurity in Borno State and the rest of the country to an end.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President was quoted as saying, “We are here on behalf of the President to sympathise with the victims and to reassure the good people of Borno State and indeed the entire nation that the government remains unwavering in its commitment to secure the lives and property of our citizens.”

He further stated, “By the grace of God, this madness will soon be brought to an end.”

Senator Shettima also praised Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, for his continuous efforts in tackling security and humanitarian issues, emphasizing that the Federal Government would keep working closely with the state to ensure sustainable peace.

“The Governor of Borno has been working round the clock to complement the efforts of the Federal Government. I sincerely appreciate his commitment,” VP Shettima said.

He added, “Most importantly, we are united in victory as well as in challenges. We are one nation, tied to a common destiny.”

During the visit, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital briefed the Vice President, disclosing that 14 patients were brought in after the explosion, with one victim passing away shortly after admission.

He explained that seven patients are still hospitalised, including one receiving intensive care, while five others have been treated and discharged.
