Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Saturday morning in the wake of last Tuesday’s killing of more than 100 people in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state by suspected “Boko haram” terrorists.
He was welcomed at the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Senator representing Kwara North, Senator Sadiq Umar, alongside other state officials.
During the visit, the vice president is scheduled to hold meetings with key stakeholders, including the village head of Woro, the Emir of Kaiama, local government authorities, and security chiefs.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the immediate deployment of a battalion of soldiers to the affected area.
Suspected “Boko haram” gunmen reportedly attacked the Woro community, setting houses on fire and killing over 100 residents.
An unconfirmed number of women and girls were also abducted during the assault.
On Wednesday, 75 of the victims were laid to rest in a mass burial conducted in line with Islamic rites.
Many of the injured were taken to various hospitals, with some already discharged after receiving treatment.
The attack on Woro has drawn widespread condemnation from both local and international communities.
