Nura Usman and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, have been arraigned before the Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano, over alleged conspiracy and attempted murder.
The duo are accused of plotting to kill Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono, at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano.
They allegedly hired an assassin and paid him N500,000 to carry out the planned killing.
However, the alleged assassin reportedly alerted Shanono about the plot instead of carrying out the assignment.
Shanono and the assassin then reportedly staged his death to convince the suspects that the operation had been successful.
The alleged assassin was said to have taken Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal belongings and presented them as evidence that he had carried out the killing.
The suspects reportedly announced Shanono’s death, prompting relatives and sympathisers to gather to mourn him.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Shanono later appeared with security operatives, revealing that his death had been faked.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, has been adjourned until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
