South African opposition leader Julius Malema, on Saturday, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Malema, who heads the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a prominent opposition party in South Africa, was received at the Lagos House, Marina.
“Today, I received Mr Julius Malema, President of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters, on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said in a post on his official X handle on Saturday evening, sharing photographs of the meeting.
According to the EFF, Malema is scheduled to address the Nigerian Bar Association during its annual general conference at the Enugu State International Conference Centre on Sunday, 24 August 2025.
Malema, aged 44, is known for his populist, Marxist-inspired politics and the party’s trademark red beret. In May, he drew international attention after vowing to continue using a controversial anti-apartheid chant, “Kill the Boer, kill the farmer,” which has angered white minority groups in South Africa.
The chant, originating from the struggle against apartheid, remains deeply divisive. Critics argue it fuels racial hostility, while Malema insists it symbolises resistance to oppression.
