The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has confirmed that pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa, arrested in Finland in November 2024 on terrorism-related charges, remains on trial before Finnish authorities.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, General Musa said Ekpa’s detention has brought relative peace to Nigeria’s Southeast.
He explained that security forces have launched operations to track down Ekpa’s associates in Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia states.
“He is still undergoing prosecution in Finland, so we are hopeful. When we spoke about him earlier, many thought we were exaggerating, but since his arrest, the Southeast has become calmer. We will pursue his lieutenants wherever they are until we bring them down,” he said.
General Musa also hailed the recent capture of Ansaru terrorist commanders, stressing that the success was the result of careful coordination between the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force.
He said, “The difference now is synergy across all the services, and that is why we have seen these successes.”
To further strengthen cooperation, the Defence Headquarters will host an African Chiefs of Defence Staff conference from Monday to promote continental security collaboration.
