Speaker urges unity as Nigeria turns 65

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to look ahead with optimism and embrace the bright future before them.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Leke Baiyewu, Abbas noted that Nigeria has navigated a complex history since independence, but the years ahead promise greater unity and prosperity for all.

He emphasised that God has blessed the country with vast human and natural resources, calling for collective efforts from all stakeholders to build “the nation of our dreams, irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political differences.”

Abbas stated that Nigeria is on the right course with the ongoing implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Expressing confidence in the nation’s future, he maintained that Nigeria remains the Giant of Africa and is destined to reclaim its position as the continent’s largest economy.

The Speaker encouraged Nigerians to remain resilient in the face of security and socio-economic challenges, urging continued prayers, patriotism, and adherence to the law.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th House of Representatives to providing accountable leadership, good governance, and the dividends of democracy, particularly at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu will address the nation at 7 a.m. on Wednesday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced in a statement on Tuesday that the address will be broadcast live on Channels Television and other media outlets.
