Moroccan authorities have commenced an investigation into the alleged theft of more than $1,200 from the hotel rooms of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons.
The incident reportedly came to light after forward Esther Okoronkwo shared details of the alleged theft on her Snapchat account.
The Super Falcons are currently staying at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca as they complete preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The players reportedly suspect hotel cleaning staff, who had access to their rooms while the team was away for a training session.
Local police have since begun investigating the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel to identify individuals who entered the affected rooms during the period in question.
Esther Okoronkwo reportedly suffered the biggest loss, with $700 allegedly missing from her belongings.
Other affected players include captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who reportedly lost $200, Joy Omewa, who had $120 missing, while veteran defender Osinachi Ohale and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde each reported losing $100.
The total amount allegedly stolen from the players is said to be $1,220, equivalent to approximately ₦1.7 million.
Despite the incident, the Nigeria Football Federation and head coach Justine Madugu are working to maintain stability within the camp as the defending champions focus on their title defence.
The Super Falcons are set to begin their Group C campaign against Malawi in Rabat, with Zambia and Egypt also in the group.
