Suspect arrested for rape, murder of woman in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, for allegedly raping and killing Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa community, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The suspect reportedly strangled the victim following the alleged sexual assault last week.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, stated that detectives acted on credible intelligence, tracing the deceased’s missing phone, which led to Anthony’s arrest.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to having carnal knowledge of the victim and thereafter strangling her to death,” Jimoh said.

He condemned the act as “heinous and inhumane” and assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently.

The case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

Jimoh urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly and avoid hasty conclusions in sudden or unnatural deaths, emphasizing that timely reporting aids investigations.
