A man has allegedly fled after he was caught trying to hide the body of his girlfriend inside the boot of his car in the Akobo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Residents of the community raised the alarm after noticing the suspect attempting to force the body of a young woman into the boot of his 2007 Toyota Corolla. Eyewitnesses said the man suddenly abandoned the attempt when he realized that several neighbours were still outside because of the heat.
According to residents, the suspect dropped the body on the ground and quickly drove away from the scene.
Sources in the area revealed that the man and the victim had earlier been seen entering the house together earlier in the day.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and recovered the body of the victim, identified as Precious, who was said to be a resident of the Akobo community.
Residents also reported that the house where the incident allegedly occurred was found in disarray, while a hammer was discovered on the floor.
The suspect has been identified by locals as Muhammad Quadri, a former student of The Polytechnic Ibadan and a past member of the National Youth Service Corps.
Community sources further claimed that the couple had reportedly been involved in a toxic relationship before the tragic incident.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as investigations into the matter continue.
