Teenager found dead after overnight rainstorm in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of an unidentified teenage boy whose body was found in a gully at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters on Monday morning after a night of heavy rainfall.

Police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, stated that officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m. in response to a distress call.

He noted that preliminary checks showed no visible injuries on the body, suggesting the boy may have drowned during the torrential rain.

“The officers found no signs of violence or physical assault on the body,” Abdullahi said. “We suspect he may have been swept away by floodwaters resulting from the overnight rain.”

The boy, estimated to be around 15 years old, had no identification on him when he was found. His body was taken to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Abdullahi noted that detectives documented the scene and that a formal investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. He appealed to residents to assist the police in identifying the deceased.

“We are doing everything we can to trace his relatives,” he said. “We urge anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station.”

The incident highlights growing concerns over the dangers posed by gully erosion and flooding during the rainy season in parts of Gombe State.
