Terrorists abduct students from Borno school

Suspected terrorists have reportedly kidnapped an unspecified number of students from a school in Mussa village, Askira/Uba LGA of Borno state.

According to Reuters, residents said the insurgents stormed Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School around 9am on Friday while classes were in session and whisked away several students.

A teacher at the school told Reuters that the attackers arrived on motorcycles.

“Despite some students escaping into the bushes, I can tell you many were taken away,” the teacher said.

Midala Balami, the lawmaker representing Askira-Uba/Hawul federal constituency in the house of representatives, described the incident as “heartbreaking” and called for an urgent response from authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Borno police command nor the military had issued an official statement on the attack.

Northern Nigeria has witnessed repeated attacks on schools in recent years, with armed groups frequently abducting students for ransom.

In November last year, at least 303 students were kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara LGA of Niger state.

During the same period, gunmen also invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi state, abducting 25 students.
