Three killed, 1,415 households affected by flash floods in Adamawa – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reports that at least 1,415 households were impacted and three lives lost in recent flash floods across Adamawa state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the agency explained that the flooding followed a heavy downpour on Tuesday, submerging communities in Yola North and Yola South LGAs.

According to NEMA, a rapid assessment carried out by its Yola operations office in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and other partners revealed that 13 communities were affected.

The agency further noted that more than 40 individuals sustained injuries, while farmlands and key infrastructure were inundated, leading to displacement and disruption of livelihoods.

“Displaced families are currently being sheltered within host communities, while some have been relocated to flood resettlement camp in Girei,” the statement reads.

“Urgent humanitarian needs identified include food, shelter, medical support, and clean water.”

NEMA appealed to residents in flood-prone zones to remain alert and comply strictly with early warning advisories as the rainy season continues.

The agency also assured that it will keep working with ADSEMA, local emergency committees, and humanitarian partners to mitigate the impact of disasters and provide timely support to affected families.

In July, torrential rainfall caused severe flooding in Yola and nearby areas, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 people and displacing over 5,500.
