Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are receiving treatment for gunshot injuries sustained during an armed attack on Thursday night in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the attack occurred during a raid operation at an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi.
Acting on intelligence and surveillance reports, the NDLEA team recovered 74 bottles of codeine, 10 liters of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a strain of cannabis), and five android phones.
As the operatives exited the location, they were ambushed by armed men, leaving three officers injured—one with a gunshot wound to the rib and two others with injuries to the back and leg.
The injured officers were initially treated at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital Abuja for advanced medical care.
Babafemi added that the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), expressed gratitude to the staff of the Police Clinic for their immediate assistance and to the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for personally overseeing the officers’ treatment.
While on official duty in Kano, Marwa spoke with the injured officers to wish them a swift recovery and assured them that the agency, in collaboration with other security forces, will exhaust all resources to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
