Three opposition lawmakers in the Taraba State House of Assembly have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Umar Adamu, who represents Jalingo 1 Constituency, and Zakari Sanusi, who represents Ibi Constituency, both left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Anas Shaibu, representing Karim 2 Constituency, defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The Speaker, John Kizito, read their letters of defection during plenary. He explained that the defections followed Governor Agbu Kefas’ efforts to transform the state and the lawmakers’ consultations with stakeholders, political associates, and constituents.
Shaibu stated in his letter that joining the PDP would enable him to serve his constituents more effectively and contribute to the state’s progress. Adamu echoed similar sentiments, saying he appreciated his time in the NNPP but believed the PDP’s vision aligned better with his values and his people’s aspirations. Sanusi expressed the same position in his letter.
The Taraba House now comprises 16 PDP lawmakers and eight from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
