Tinubu congratulates Samson Adamu on CAF appointment

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, on his appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the development as a “proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.”

CAF confirmed Adamu’s appointment on March 29, 2026, marking the first time a Nigerian has occupied the organisation’s top administrative position since its founding in 1957.

Adamu, who previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, assumed the role in an acting capacity following the exit of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Tinubu further called the appointment “a significant milestone for Nigerian sports and a strong affirmation of the country’s enduring leadership and influence in African football administration.”

He commended Adamu’s track record, stating, “His excellence, professionalism, and dedication—particularly in organising and delivering major CAF competitions—have elevated the standard of football events across the continent.”

The President also noted that the appointment aligns with his administration’s focus on sports development, youth empowerment, national unity, and global competitiveness.

“I am confident that Mr. Adamu will leverage his wealth of experience, strategic insight, and administrative competence to strengthen CAF’s operations and advance football across its 54 member associations,” he added.

Tinubu wished him success in his new role and assured him of Nigeria’s full support as he takes on the responsibility.
