Five National Assembly members of the All Progressives Congress from Osun State have rejected claims that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged support for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the upcoming August 15 governorship election.
The lawmakers, operating under the G-5 platform, described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
In a joint statement, they said, “Our attention has been drawn to the lies being peddled by some Accord Party members about President Bola Tinubu’s support for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the next governorship poll.
“We feel it is time to put an end to the lies and stop it’s further spread. The President, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), did not at anytime endorse or approve of Gov Adeleke’ candidacy.
“The President never had any political meeting with Governor Adeleke. The only meeting was a sallah homage to the President in Lagos last year by the governor’s family.”
The lawmakers further insisted that at no point did the president indicate support for Adeleke, adding, “We have had several meetings with the President, and at no time did he ever mention his interest in Governor Adeleke. In fact, the President made it clear that with our (G5) coming on board, he was sure of a landslide victory for Osun APC.”
They questioned the logic behind the claims, stating, “Is it not foolhardy to think that the President will want to trade the last election before his second term election? If there were to be any agreement, why are the media boys of the governor insulting and abusing President Tinubu at every opportunity?”
Reaffirming their stance, the lawmakers urged party members and voters to rally behind the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, expressing confidence in victory.
They added, “We assure the people of the state of Mr President’s renewed love for Osun. They should be assured that the state will get a better deal from the federal government with Oyebamiji as the governor.”
The lawmakers also pledged electoral strength ahead of future contests, stating, “We also want to assure Mr President that if Osun APC could muster 343,000 votes for him in 2023, we need not say that with our presence in the party, President Tinubu can be sure of a million votes in the 2027 poll.”
