President Bola Tinubu is currently in closed-door talks with Madagascar’s President, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The visiting leader arrived at the State House at about 2:57 p.m. and was received with ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour mounted by the Presidential Brigade of Guards, before being escorted into the Villa.
He was first welcomed by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, after which he proceeded into a private meeting with President Tinubu.
The visit marks Randrianirina’s first official trip to Nigeria since assuming office in October 2025, following political changes in Madagascar.
It is also the first official visit by a Malagasy head of state to Nigeria, as past engagements between both countries have mostly taken place at international summits.
The meeting follows a brief encounter between both leaders at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, in May.
Although details of the discussions have not been disclosed, the talks are expected to focus on regional security, agricultural cooperation, and climate-related challenges affecting Madagascar.
More updates are expected as the engagement continues.
