Tinubu swears in new housing minister

Bola Tinubu has sworn in Dr Muttaqha Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The ceremony took place shortly before 4:00 p.m. at the Presidential Conference Room in the Aso Rock Villa.

Darma, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday after a screening exercise. His nomination was earlier communicated to the upper chamber in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During his screening, Darma pledged to collaborate with the National Assembly to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit, noting that over 100 million citizens lack adequate housing.

He also outlined plans to improve sector leadership, expand access to affordable housing, and strengthen key institutions.

Darma takes over from Ahmed Dangiwa following a minor cabinet reshuffle approved by the Presidency earlier in the week.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the changes were intended to improve governance cohesion and enhance economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dangiwa officially handed over the ministry on Thursday in line with directives from the SGF’s office.
