Tinubu’s budgeting focuses on transformation, not survival — Shettima

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima emphasized on Wednesday that under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, budgeting is not merely about survival but is focused on driving economic transformation to ensure sustainable growth.

He made this statement during the 15th Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture, organized by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Abuja.

Highlighting the connection between engineering and governance, Shettima stressed that budgeting cannot be approached haphazardly or influenced by emotions. Instead, it must be meticulously planned to deliver tangible results.

Drawing a parallel with engineering, he noted that just as every bolt and nut is accounted for in mechanical designs, every dime in the budget must be accounted for to ensure accountability and efficiency.

“What if we approach the national budget the way an engineer approaches a machine, each bolt and each beam aligns, each weight and measures accounted for, each output carefully tested against the blueprint?

What if the budget planning wasn’t just a routine exercise but a technical operation in nation-buildingdriven by strategy, logic, and long-term calibration? This is the thinking we are institutionalising in the current administration,” he stated.

“We are not just budgeting for survival. We are budgeting for reality. We are budgeting for reality. We are budgeting for transformation. We are building systems that speak to productivity to sustainability, and progress.”
