Traders protest against Onitsha Main Market shutdown

Traders at the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State staged a street protest on Tuesday over moves to implement Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s order to shut the market.

Videos shared on social media captured crowds of traders parading through the market, chanting songs in support of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Despite the directive, some traders were seen opening their shops in open defiance of the closure order.

Recall that Governor Soludo had on Monday criticized the continued adherence to the sit-at-home order, questioning why shops remained closed despite the relative peace and calm in Anambra.

He subsequently ordered the shit down kg the Onitsha Main Market till next week Monday.
