Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, attended the inauguration of the Lagos State Executive Committee of the City Boy Movement.
The police commissioner arrived at the venue in an official convoy alongside members of his entourage.
As he entered the event, a group of women welcomed him with songs, chanting, “Olopa, abeg sir, olopa abeg sir,” while guests applauded his arrival.
The inauguration, which took place on Tuesday, brought together political figures, traditional leaders, local government chairmen, youth representatives and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the official launch of the movement’s Lagos chapter.
Speaking at the event, Lagos State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement and Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, said the initiative was established to mobilise and empower young Nigerians to take a more active role in governance and national development.
“Today is far more than the inauguration of another state chapter. It is about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to be more responsible and committed to the development of the country,” Ogunlewe said.
He noted that despite young people making up a large percentage of Nigeria’s population, many remain disconnected from civic and political engagement.
Ogunlewe explained that the movement would not focus solely on elections but would also promote national unity, discipline, constitutional values and increased youth involvement in governance.
He added that the organisation’s long-term vision goes beyond the 2027 elections, with plans to support educational growth and create sustainable opportunities for young Nigerians.
The National Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Tosin Shoga, described the inauguration as another step towards expanding youth participation in politics and promoting the policies of the Tinubu administration at the grassroots level.
“Today is more than an inauguration. It is a moment to talk to ourselves about how to build the future of the country. We came for a serious mission in Lagos State,” he said.
Shoga said the organisation had developed into a platform for taking the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda directly to communities across Nigeria.
“The City Boy Movement has become a vehicle that carries the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government and ensure that the people are mobilised to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
The event also included the screening of a documentary showcasing the aims and activities of the City Boy Movement, while Nigerian musician 9ice entertained attendees.
Those present at the event included the movement’s founder, Seyi Tinubu, who was represented by National Secretary Tosin Odufuwa; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakassai; as well as several APC leaders and stakeholders.
The City Boy Movement was established as a campaign platform during the 2023 presidential election and has since expanded into a nationwide youth-focused political advocacy group promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while mobilising grassroots support ahead of the 2027 election.
The attendance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the political gathering has attracted attention as political activities continue to increase ahead of the next general election.
