President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commented on his son Seyi Tinubu’s growing political activities, joking that he is “running after his father” while commending his efforts to mobilise young Nigerians through the City Boy Movement.
The President spoke on Monday at an event organised by the movement, where he praised Seyi for engaging young people without seeking a political title or public office.
“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended Seyi and other members of the movement for dedicating their time to reaching out to young Nigerians, listening to their concerns and organising them.
“You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you. You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office.
“You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organised them. I am proud of all of you,” he said.
However, the President encouraged his son to build on his current efforts and do more in service to the country.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” Tinubu said.
He added that Nigerians were observing the younger generation and urged them to regard serving the country as a great honour.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu’s role in the City Boy Movement
Seyi Tinubu serves as patron of the City Boy Movement, a group that mobilises young Nigerians in support of his father’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The organisation has conducted grassroots mobilisation campaigns and programmes intended to encourage youth participation in public affairs.
Seyi’s increasing involvement in political mobilisation has drawn public attention and prompted questions about whether his activities signal future political ambitions.
At his 41st birthday colloquium in Lagos on 12 October, Seyi urged young Nigerians to participate in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
