Social media has been buzzing over a viral video of an unannounced proposal during celebrations on muddy grounds at the University of Abuja, where students in white tops crowded around two young people. The young man was seen kneeling, trying to propose to the lady, which ended in rejection and about three slaps.
The 14-to-37-second moment sparked hundreds of reactions online, with many users criticizing public proposals without prior signals.
Commenters were heavily divided over whether the slaps went too far or if a simple verbal rejection would have sufficed, further fueling ongoing Nigerian online discussions about choosing private relationship talks over public gestures to prevent humiliation.
