A 28-year-old widow identified as Tosin has appealed for help after accusing her late husband’s family of attacking her and attempting to take over his properties just days after his passing.
According to posts shared online by activist Harrison Gwamnishu, Tosin’s husband died on July 20, 2026, after a period of illness.
Gwamnishu alleged that within days of the burial, the deceased’s father, mother, brother and his wife moved into the family home in Ikorodu, Lagos, ordering Tosin and her two young sons to confine themselves and their belongings to a single room.
He further claimed that some of the late husband’s properties had already been shared among the family, while plans were afoot to sell his car.
A video circulating online captured a tense confrontation between Tosin and her father-in-law, in which the distressed widow was heard repeatedly crying out in Yoruba — “Ẹ̀ ń ní mí lára! Ẹ̀ ń ní mí lára!” — meaning, “You all are stressing me! You all are oppressing me!”
Speaking in English through tears, she alleged, “They were not supposed to do anything to me! They started beating me. They are not even supposed to do anything to me, they are not supposed to touch me. I am weak, I am hungry, I am tired. That was how everything happened, he started beating me, dragging my phone, and threw me on the floor. What if I hit my head on the floor?”
Gwamnishu also shared a separate video showing the widow’s father-in-law padlocking the gate and locking her outside the house, despite reportedly owning another residence elsewhere. He added that Tosin had begun receiving threats after she made the matter public.
The activist called on the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Lagos State Police Command to intervene, stating that “No widow should have to fight for dignity, shelter, and justice just days after losing her husband.”
