Social media has been buzzing over man who allegedly pretended that his bank transfer had failed due to network issues before offering gold-wrapped old car tyres as collateral in exchange for cash, promising to return later.
Neighbours reportedly intervened during the transaction and discovered that the tyres were damaged and worthless underneath the gold-coloured wrapping, preventing the alleged scam.
The incident highlights the evolving tactics used by fraudsters amid economic hardship and underscores the need for proper verification and prompt reporting to the police rather than resorting to mob action.
Man reportedly caught after packaging old, damaged tyres in nylon and attempting to use them to collect cash from a POS operator. He allegedly posed as a customer, claimed his transfer failed, then offered the “new” tyres as collateral for cash, saying he was in a hurry. https://t.co/7cTE3piLk7

Here are the reactions:
Paradigm-Chieftain @TPabus: Man set out to test-run his premeditated evil….had he succeeded, he would have probably improvised this mode and diversified. He’d have succeeded everytime, until he’s caught and he’d blame Satan.
Varis @VarisTheTrader: Evil will never stop to exist in Nigeria, people are genuinely hungry and are willing to work but there is nothing to do. So they resort to tricks and scams on the next person. Fix the system, fix the problem.
Abisola @Abisola: Don’t beat him. Our leaders have consistently dropped old tyres in our POS stands daily and we’ve knowingly given them our hard-earned cash and even borrowed from our future and given it to them.
The @v_gaaX: When security personnel torture people, we start raising alarm, when it’s we the civilians beating such guys even after we’ve clearing apprehended them, why does it seem fine? He’s in the wrong, yes! You’ve caught him & he seems to cooperate, why beat him? Let the law take its course or stop crying why security personnel beat up people too, ’cause they’ve the same hearts as you.
Bibi of Brad. @bibibrad1: Dear Nigerians, Could we, for once, be a little fair to one another? Could we stop looking for every opportunity to dupe, cheat, exploit or take advantage of the next person? Could we try to be better people to one another and to our country? Nigeria is not only what the government does. Nigeria is also what we do to each other. This is disgusting.
Balogun yusuf seun @Bys1Seun: Ask for that guy’s name and where he comes from. Your answer, unsurprisingly is what you’d expected..but everybody is saying..oh Nigerians we are all the same, we shouldn’t point fingers…blah blah blah…you think it’s only substandard, fake food and drugs that’s our problem?…think again mosebolatan
@Mablemosabd: If he’d used his brain on something beneficial instead of thinking of scamming another person, he will have succeed.
Peace_Maker (MPH) @gstan86: The experience is terrible I once bought so called new tire But it didn’t last up to 4months for a private car within. We need regulations.
Protagonist @Protagonistd1st: Imagine he has kids at home who haven’t eaten, who haven’t paid school fees.. What he did is very wrong, but a large portion of what he did was caused by the bad governance in the country. If the country was good, he would have less reason to do this.
ČǍŁŁMĚǓČĦMǍŇ @callmeuchma: I will say this sometimes we Nigerians are the problem of ourselves. We have normalized everything evil, everything bad, just because we want to make money.
T-Empire @tempire01: I don’t know if this cause by proverty or witchcraft A friend told me how a married man and his wife came to his aged mother and brought food items worth 50k and did a fake transfer to his little sister opay thinking he was dealing with an old woman lol That was how he was caught and beaten with his wife in front of his kids
Sekky. @Sekky396878691: This is very rampant in my state. Some people will use a brand-new carton meant for a water pumping machine, fill it with pure water sachets and water. Once you catch them, don’t spare them ,report them and let the law deal with them.
