Abia State Governor Alex Otti has offered a scholarship to a Nigerian student who broke down in tears while speaking about her late father after achieving success at the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar.
The student was among the young Nigerians who represented the country at the international competition and emerged victorious.
In an emotional moment, the student became overwhelmed with joy after delivering her speech, wishing her late father were alive to witness her remarkable achievement. She lost him when she was just four years old.
Moved by her story, Governor Otti offered her a scholarship covering her education from secondary school to the highest level.
Speaking on his commitment to improving education in Abia State, the governor said, “I’m a product of public schools. As long as I remain in office as governor, never again will our public schools remain the way they were before.”
The gesture highlights the importance of supporting talented students and ensuring that financial challenges do not stand in the way of their educational dreams.
