Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo says petrol sells for more than N3,000 per litre in the United Kingdom (UK), arguing that Nigeria is doing well with its current petrol prices.
Okpebholo made the comments in a viral video circulating on X, saying Nigeria is in safe hands under President Bola Tinubu.
“Nigeria is in a safe hand. When we complained about the cost of petrol, I was in London last week,” he said.
“I told my friends, let’s go and buy fuel just to know the cost of fuel between Nigeria and England. Let me tell you. After conversion, it’s about N3000 something to one litre of fuel. We are doing very well here.”
As of September 24, the average petrol price in the UK was about £1.74 per litre, which was equivalent to more than N3,000 at the prevailing exchange rate.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited’s latest pump-price list puts petrol at N1,385 per litre in Lagos and N1,430 in Abuja, although prices differ across locations.
Okpebholo also described Tinubu as an economist who is taking steps to stabilise the Nigerian economy.
“Our president is not a supermarket man,” he said.
“The supermarket people, let them wait. When it’s time for a supermarket to rule Nigeria and technocrats are not here again, then, they will come.”
