A lawyer representing five suspects accused of kidnapping 20 corps members in Imo State has defended his clients, insisting that they remain innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
The lawyer maintained that the suspects should not be treated as criminals before the allegations against them are established through due legal process.
“They are still innocent until proven guilty,” the lawyer said while defending the five suspects.
The case involves allegations surrounding the kidnapping of 20 corps members in Imo State, an incident that has raised concerns about the safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the country.
The lawyer’s position reflects the principle of presumption of innocence under Nigerian law, which holds that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
However, the allegations against the suspects will have to be examined by the appropriate authorities and determined by a competent court.
