A man from Northern Nigeria has sparked reactions after expressing appreciation to a supporter of President Bola Tinubu who reportedly gave him two bags of food items, while making it clear that the gesture would not influence his voting decision in the 2027 general elections.
The man, whose identity was not immediately known, was seen displaying the bags of rice and beans he received from the president’s supporter.
While appreciating the donor for the gesture, he maintained that receiving the food items would not make him pledge his support to Tinubu or vote for him in the next presidential election.
According to him, his decision at the polls would be based on choosing the candidate he believes is right for the country rather than accepting gifts or assistance from political supporters.
“One of President Tinubu’s supporters gave me two bags of rice and beans. I really appreciate him, but I won’t vote for Tinubu in the 2027 election. I will vote for the right candidate.”
His remarks have drawn attention, particularly as political activities and conversations surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
The development has also renewed conversations about the relationship between political handouts and voters’ decisions, with the man’s position suggesting that receiving assistance should not automatically translate into political loyalty.
