Troops foil terrorist attack on military base in Zamfara

Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on a forward operating base (FOB) in Bukuyyum LGA of Zamfara State.

According to sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday when suspected terrorists tried to infiltrate and attack troops stationed at FOB Gwashi.

“According to the sources, the troops responded with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire and forcing them to abandon the assault and retreat from the area,” the report stated.

The publication added that reinforcement troops from the forward operating bases in Gummi and Bukuyyum were swiftly deployed to strengthen security and support ongoing clearance operations.

“The sources said troops have since intensified surveillance and domination of the general area while reinforcing defensive positions to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks,” the report added.

No casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter.

Military sources described the rapid response as a reflection of the troops’ preparedness and commitment to preventing terrorist groups from gaining ground within the operational area.

The report also noted that troops have sustained aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing attackers and maintaining pressure on criminal elements in the state.
