Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by hybrid forces and actionable intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), eliminated no fewer than 45 bandits during a military operation on Friday evening in Iburu village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Security sources confirmed that the DSS intercepted intelligence suggesting that armed terrorists on multiple motorcycles were en route to launch attacks on Iburu and nearby communities. The alert was swiftly relayed to military units on standby.
A heavy exchange of gunfire reportedly followed, resulting in the death of at least 45 terrorists. According to eyewitnesses, villagers counted over 40 bodies of suspected assailants and witnessed dozens of motorcycles destroyed in the confrontation.
Sources also disclosed that two members of the hybrid force fighting alongside the military were killed in the operation, while four others sustained severe gunshot wounds and are currently being treated at a public hospital in Minna, the state capital.
