Troops kill bandits, recover about 1,000 rustled cattle in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with Operation Safe Haven, have neutralized two bandits and recovered approximately 1,000 cattle in Taraba and Plateau States.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops swiftly responded to reports of armed bandits on around 30 motorcycles crossing from Plateau State into Taraba State to carry out a cattle rustling operation targeting a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA).

The joint operation, codenamed Operation Lafiya Jama’a, aims to bolster the fight against criminal activities in Taraba and neighboring states, ensuring safety for residents.

In a coordinated response, troops from 6 Brigade and Operation Safe Haven deployed to the Kampani area of Wase LGA, Plateau State, advanced towards Komodoro Village in Karim Lamido LGA. Upon engaging the bandits—who had retreated across the river boundary into the Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State—a fierce firefight ensued.

According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, two bandits were neutralized during the encounter, and about 1,000 rustled cattle were successfully recovered.

The recovered livestock were secured and relocated to the Jebjeb community in Karim Lamido LGA. Plans are underway to conduct thorough identification and verification processes to ensure the cattle are returned to their rightful owners.

The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the swift action and synergy between the collaborating security forces, reaffirming the commitment of the Brigade to sustain pressure on criminal elements threatening peace and security in the region.
