Troops neutralise 13 Boko Haram in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have once again displayed resilience by neutralising 13 Boko Haram insurgents during a failed ambush and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on their convoy at Kareto, Borno State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, as troops escorted humanitarian trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road. The terrorists detonated two command IEDs and opened heavy fire, but the troops quickly took positions and suppressed them with superior firepower. Thirteen insurgents were killed instantly, while the rest fled in disarray.

The soldiers pursued the attackers, recovering eight AK-47 rifles, ten rifle magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, a camel bag, and several rolls of detonating cord wires for IEDs.

One soldier sustained minor injuries but remains stable. Four MRAP tyres were damaged and two trucks caught fire, though relief materials were secured and moved safely to Damasak.

In a related operation, troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) responded to a distress call about militias preparing to attack communities in Fann District, Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State.

They intercepted an armed militia at Kaskra in Ropp District and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed the militia had been mobilised from a nearby community to attack villages under Nding in Barkin Ladi.

The suspect is in custody and undergoing interrogation to support follow-up operations.
