Troops recover arms, arrest two suspects in Taraba gun raid

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested two suspects and recovered a significant cache of illegal weapons during a raid in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation is part of the army’s ongoing efforts to rid the region of illegal arms and ammunition, according to a press statement issued by the 6 Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni.

Acting on credible intelligence about the presence of illegal arms in specific locations within Donga, the troops launched a targeted operation on suspected hideouts in Gayama village.

The raid resulted in the arrest of two individuals identified as Haruna Samari and Dantala Mamman, found in possession of a range of prohibited weapons and equipment.

Items recovered include:

* One submachine gun and a magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition

* One empty 7.62mm special ammunition case

* Two fabricated rifles

* Three single-barrel guns

* Three Dane guns

* Five live cartridges and four spent shells

* One Beofeng radio

* One helmet

The suspects are currently in custody and under investigation.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their swift action and reiterated the brigade’s commitment to ensuring security across Taraba State. He also called on residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support security operations.
