Troops repel terrorist attack in Borno, recover pistol, ammunition

Troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled an attempted attack by suspected terrorists in Rumirigo, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the incident occurred at about 11:10pm on August 29.

According to the publication, the troops were positioned in an ambush location in the area when they encountered the suspected terrorists.

“The troops responded with disciplined fire, forcing the terrorists to retreat in confusion,” Makama said.

He added that troops subsequently searched the area and recovered one pistol and seven rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“During exploitation of the area after the encounter, the troops recovered one pistol and seven rounds of 9mm ammunition. The recovered items have been secured by 115 Task Force Battalion for further action,” Makama said.

Makama noted that the security situation across the theatre remained relatively calm, although the threat continued to be unpredictable.

Last month, troops of Operation Hadin Kai reportedly killed 26 terrorists while thwarting an attack in Borno State.
