Troops under the Northwest Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 10 civilians abducted by terrorists during separate operations in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The Media Information Officer of the operation, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Danja said troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State came under attack from terrorists but quickly responded, forcing the assailants to retreat.
He said five kidnapped civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the terrorists were also recovered.
In Kebbi State, troops rescued three kidnapped victims during a search-and-rescue operation conducted in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
Danja said the rescued victims had been profiled and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
He also disclosed that troops operating in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State engaged terrorists, forcing them to flee and abandon two kidnapped victims.
According to him, the victims sustained gunshot wounds while in captivity and were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent medical attention.
Danja said troops were continuing efforts to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.
The theatre command commended the troops for their vigilance and quick response, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining sustained pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.
It also called on members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations and help protect lives and property.
