Two killed, several injured in multiple-vehicle crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

At least two commuters lost their lives on Sunday after a multiple-vehicle accident occurred at the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Mowe.

Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident.

The crash reportedly happened when a truck transporting bags of flour lost control and crashed into several vehicles, including commercial buses, along the busy corridor.

The impact also involved a Toyota Corolla that had been parked on the bridge due to a flat tyre, leaving its driver injured.

Emergency personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) were mobilised to the scene to conduct rescue operations and manage traffic.

Confirming the development via its official X handle, LASTMA said the accident involved a truck, a Toyota Corolla, a RAV4 SUV and two fully loaded interstate buses, adding that the injured victims were taken to hospital.

“A multiple-vehicle crash involving a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, an SUV (RAV4), and two loaded interstate Mazda buses has been reported on Kara Bridge inward Mowe. Police officers and our officials are on scene managing the situation,” the agency stated.

The incident triggered heavy traffic congestion on the expressway, with motorists stranded for several hours.

However, LASTMA later announced that partial evacuation of the damaged vehicles had been completed, resulting in improved traffic flow.

“Our men are on hand to ensure the safety of other motorists and road users while also ensuring smooth traffic flow in collaboration with the men of the FRSC,” the agency added.

The latest crash has renewed safety concerns around the Kara Bridge, which has recorded multiple fatal accidents in recent months.

On October 30, 2025, no fewer than six people, including a police officer, were killed in another multi-truck collision at the same location, one of which involved a fuel tanker.

Authorities are yet to release a detailed report on Sunday’s incident, including the confirmed number of casualties.
