The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) each lost a lawmaker in the House of Representatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
Hon. Peter Akpanke and Hon. Paul Nnamchi announced their defection during plenary, with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas reading their letters of resignation from their former parties.
Akpanke, elected on the PDP platform, represents the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency in Cross River State, while Nnamchi, elected under the LP, represents the Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State.
Both lawmakers cited internal crises within their respective parties and a desire to align with the policies and programs of the APC-led Federal Government as reasons for their defection.
Their announcement was met with applause from APC members in the chamber, and Speaker Abbas extended his congratulations to the defectors on their new political decision.
