Two soldiers killed as Troops repel Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks in Borno

Two soldiers lost their lives while successfully repelling coordinated attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the New Marte and Kumshe areas of Borno State.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed that the attacks were thwarted through the combined efforts of ground troops and air support.

“In the early hours of May 27, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) foiled an attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate their position in New Marte.

The attackers were met with heavy gunfire, supported by immediate Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and offensive firepower from the Air Component, resulting in the decimation of several fleeing terrorists,” the statement read.

A similar attempt to attack the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe was also repelled, further showcasing the renewed synergy between the ground forces and air support.

“Regrettably, two soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice during the encounter,” Kovangiya stated.

The statement highlighted significant gains from the operation, including the recovery of an abandoned Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV, destruction of several motorcycles used by the terrorists, and discovery of lifeless bodies of insurgents, along with blood trails indicating additional casualties.

Kovangiya emphasized that these efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to restoring peace and enabling socio-economic development in the Northeast region.
