The Nigerian military has selected nine serving two-star Generals from the Army, Navy, and Air Force to serve as pallbearers at the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reports indicate that the officers, all based in Abuja, have already departed for Katsina in preparation for the arrival of Buhari’s remains from London.
According to reports, a brief ceremony is expected to take place at the Katsina Airport around 2 p.m., after which the body may be airlifted by helicopter to Daura for burial.
According to a source, the pall bearers include three Major Generals, three Rear Admirals and three Air Vice Marshals (AVMs).
Among the pall bearers, according to the source are the Guards Brigade Commander under President Buhari, Maj.-Gen. MT Usman; Maj.-Gen. S. Nuhu; a former spokesman for the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun; Rear Admiral SI Ngatuwa; Rear Admiral JO Ajodo; a former Commandant NAFRC, AVM A Amesinlola; AVM I Sani and AVM OC Obiabaka.
“It is not clear yet what the movement will be. At the moment, the local organizing committee in Katsina wants Buhari’s body to be taken to the Emir’s Palace but we are not sure how that will work since President Bola Tinubu is supposed to receive the body with Buhari’s family in Daura,” said the source.
