A UK-based Nigerian doctor, Azeezat Sanusi, popularly known as Dr Zee, has shared an emotional story of reuniting with her former secondary school biology teacher, who now works alongside her as a nurse in the same hospital in the United Kingdom.
The reunion, captured in a TikTok video posted on Monday via her handle #zeemed_, showed the former teacher and student reflecting on how their lives had come full circle after leaving Nigeria.
Introducing him in the video, Dr Zee said:
“I’m here with my secondary school biology teacher. He currently works as a nurse at the hospital where I work as a doctor. Like, how cool is that?”
Expressing her excitement, she added:
“It just feels amazing that we’re here today. You’re a registered nurse and I am a doctor.”
Her former teacher, identified as Nurse Sunday, said seeing his former student achieve her dream was fulfilling.
“Which is what everyone prays for.,” he said.
During their conversation, Dr Zee recalled that she was far from being one of the most outstanding students in secondary school, describing herself as playful and mischievous.
“You taught me biology in secondary school. To be honest, I don’t even think I was particularly smart in secondary school. I was quite naughty. I was very playful,” she said.
She joked that if her teacher had been asked back then which student would become a doctor, she probably would not have made the list.
“If you had to guess at that point which of your students was going to become a doctor, I don’t think you would have chosen me,” she said.
Nurse Sunday laughed as he replied:
“I wouldn’t have chosen you.”
Dr Zee also admitted she “didn’t like biology” while in school, making the unexpected reunion even more meaningful.
According to information on her social media page, she is registered in the UK as both a General Medical Council doctor and a Nursing and Midwifery Council professional.
