The United States has supplied military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to strengthen security cooperation between both countries.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) disclosed this in a statement published on its official website on Thursday.
According to AFRICOM, the delivery is aimed at enhancing the security partnership between Nigeria and the United States while supporting the country’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.
The equipment was transported to Nigeria aboard a US Air Force C-17 aircraft over the weekend and handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.
“PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION: A U.S. Air Force C-17 delivers equipment to the Nigerian Air Force this weekend,” AFRICOM said in a post.
AFRICOM further stated that the delivery was made under a foreign military sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
“The equipment is part of a foreign military sales agreement that furthers the U.S.-Nigerian partnership and will aid in Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorism in the region,” AFRICOM said.
This highlights the ongoing defence and security cooperation between the US and Nigeria, especially in supporting country’s efforts to tackle terrorism and other security threats in the region.
