US Embassy, Consulate in Nigeria shut for Memorial Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will close on Monday, May 25, 2026, as the country observes Memorial Day.

The US Mission in Nigeria announced the closure in a post on its official X account on Sunday.

It stated that Memorial Day is a US federal holiday marked on the last Monday of May to honour members of the American military who died in service.

The mission confirmed that both diplomatic offices will suspend routine operations for the day.

As a result, visa processing, consular services, and assistance for US citizens will not be available on May 25.

It advised applicants with scheduled appointments to monitor official communications for possible rescheduling and to contact the mission once normal services resume.
