For decades, residents of Nenwe in Enugu State say they have lived without some of the most basic necessities of modern life electricity, pipe-borne water and a secondary school.
The community says the situation has left residents struggling to meet their daily needs while forcing children to seek secondary education outside the village.
The residents said the situation had made life difficult for people in the community, particularly children who have to travel outside the village to continue their education after primary school.
“There is no single secondary school in our village. Since they gave birth to us, we have never seen electricity here or even pipe-borne water. We only have one government teacher who teaches from Primary 1 to Primary 6,” the residents said.
They appealed to the government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene by providing basic infrastructure, including electricity, potable water and educational facilities.
According to them, the lack of these amenities has continued to hinder development and make residents feel neglected despite years of government presence in the state.
The community urged the authorities to visit Nenwe and assess the situation firsthand, stressing that access to basic amenities should not be a privilege but a necessity for every community.
