[VIDEO]: Several feared killed as gunmen invade, open fire on Plateau community

Residents of the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area were thrown into terror last night when unidentified gunmen launched a deadly attack, killing at least 12 people and wounding several others.

The assault reportedly began around 7:30 pm near a popular local bar, where residents had gathered. Witnesses described scenes of panic as gunfire echoed through the streets, forcing families to flee their homes. “It was like the sky was falling,” said one resident who managed to escape.

In response, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew across Jos North, starting at midnight. Authorities called the attack “barbaric and unprovoked” and assured residents that security agencies were actively investigating and pursuing those responsible.

Hospitals in the area have been receiving the wounded, while emergency services are struggling to account for missing residents. Local leaders have urged the community to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel to help bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident adds to a growing list of security challenges in Plateau State, highlighting the ongoing need for robust protection measures for civilians. As night fell, many homes remained shuttered, and the normally bustling streets of Angwan Rukuba were eerily silent under the curfew.

Authorities continue to appeal for information from residents that may aid in identifying the attackers and restoring peace to the community.

The video captures the raw terror and panic that gripped the community. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, stay indoors, and provide any information that could help bring the attackers to justice.
