Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to the family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following Buhari’s death in a UK hospital on Sunday.

The visit was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).

Arriving in London on Monday morning, Vice President Shettima met with members of the bereaved Buhari family to deliver President Tinubu’s heartfelt condolences and express solidarity during their period of mourning.

He also visited Malam Mamman Daura, the late President’s nephew and long-time confidant, who is currently receiving treatment at a London hospital.

Vice President Shettima is leading a high-powered presidential delegation ahead of the formal repatriation of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria. He is expected to accompany the late President’s body once all necessary procedures and documentation are completed.

The delegation includes Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

The death of former President Buhari has prompted an outpouring of tributes from both within Nigeria and the global community.

In a statement on Sunday, President Tinubu confirmed Buhari’s passing and ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the former leader’s service and legacy.
