The German Embassy in Nigeria has cautioned visa applicants against depending on so-called “visa agents” for information or assistance concerning travel to Germany.
In a recent post on X, the embassy advised Nigerians to be careful about information provided by individuals who claim to have special knowledge of, or access to, the German visa process.
It urged applicants to obtain and verify visa-related information directly from the German mission rather than relying on claims made by visa agents.
“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly,” the embassy said.
The mission also invited Nigerians to share claims they had heard from “visa agents” in the comments, saying it would respond to them in subsequent posts.
Reiterating its position on the matter, the embassy stated: “We DO NOT WORK with any ‘Visa Agents’!”
The embassy further explained that applicants do not need agents to access official information, as details about German visa requirements and application procedures are available through its website.
The warning comes amid the growing reliance of Nigerians seeking to travel to Germany on third parties for assistance with visa applications, including those travelling for tourism, education, employment and family reunification.
The embassy’s clarification means applicants should exercise caution when dealing with anyone claiming to represent the German Embassy or promising to have special influence over visa decisions.
