Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has jokingly said he is unfamiliar with some prominent Nigerian entertainers, including Don Jazzy, Carter Efe and Poco Lee, suggesting humorously that they are not among the people he considers important enough to know.
Obasanjo made the comments during an appearance on comedian Isbae U’s podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask, in an episode released on Saturday, September 19.
During the interview, Isbae U tested Obasanjo’s knowledge of several well-known personalities in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
“Do you know Carter Efe?” Isbae U asked. “I don’t know,” Obasanjo responded. “Do you know Poco Lee?”
“No,” he replied, “Do you know Don Jazzy?”, “Ha,” the former president exclaimed.
Obasanjo subsequently joked that Isbae U’s circle of acquaintances differs from his own.
“So, you know people that… That I don’t know,” he said.
When Isbae U suggested that the entertainers could still know Obasanjo despite his unfamiliarity with them, the former president responded with another humorous remark.
“Ah, well, maybe because they no be important people, that’s why. That’s why the people you know, I don’t know.”
Obasanjo then contrasted the entertainers with internationally recognised figures he said he personally knows, including the late Queen Elizabeth II, whom he recalled receiving in Nigeria, and King Charles III, who he said had received him at his farm in Wales.
“Now I tell you, I know Queen Elizabeth. You say you don’t know Queen Elizabeth,” Obasanjo said.
“Do you know King Charles?” he asked Isbae U.
“I’ve heard of him,” the comedian answered. “I know him,” Obasanjo stated.
The exchange came after Isbae U spoke about his international audience. Obasanjo teased the comedian over having viewers outside Nigeria despite reportedly not having travelled to the United Kingdom or the United States.
Curiosity Made Me Ask, which debuted in December 2023, is recognised for its satirical and roast-style interview format. The podcast has featured personalities such as Pete Edochie, Jide Kosoko, Kate Henshaw, Odumodublvck, Bella Shmurda, Victor Boniface, Bovi, Bobrisky, James Brown and Tacha.
