The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has explained why applicants who made it through the initial stages of its ongoing recruitment exercise have yet to receive invitations for training.
The agency also clarified that being listed among the names published as part of the recruitment process does not automatically mean a candidate has secured an appointment.
According to the NCS, the final screening process is still underway, after which qualified candidates will be invited to commence training.
The clarification follows complaints from applicants over the delay in receiving training invitations.
Some of the applicants had cried out that they passed the Computer-Based Test, physical examination and initial screening, accepted their offer on the official recruitment portal and saw their names on the list of successful applicants, but are yet to get their training invitations ahead of the exercise scheduled to start on Friday.
They expressed uncertainty over their status after training invitations reportedly stopped on Monday.
Some said they had already resigned from their former jobs and spent money after thinking their appointments were secured.
But reacting, the Customs spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, said having one’s name published does not mean automatic employment into the Service.
Maiwada stated that candidates must still pass the physical screening and meet other requirements before they can be admitted into the training college and finally commissioned as officers.
“I will start my response first with a question. Did anyone who complained to you inform you that they have been issued an appointment letter?
“So that means the process is still ongoing. Secondly, the essence of screening is to have a physical examination of successful candidates,” he said.
